I was really hoping they'd announce the deal after he was done with his international play, but alas, still nothing.

Both sides seem convinced they're going to get a deal done easy peasy, but I wanted to see this resolved weeks(months) ago. Would be nice to know how much cap they have to play with on July 1st.

I hope the McDavid contract isn't going to throw a wrench into these negotiations. I'm not saying Pastrnak is any where near McDavid's level, but it may give Pastrnak's agent incentive to suck a few extra bucks out of management.

I was kind of expecting somewhere between a 3-5 year deal, somewhere in the 5-5.75 range.

Either that, or give him max term with an ascending contract that pays him more as he gets older. An 8 year deal would lock him up until he is 29, still time for another big payday. If he got signed to an 8 year deal with an AAV of less than 6, I would be really impressed.

This is exactly what I was saying in the Leafs thread yesterday. That rumored McDavid contract (and even the Draisaitl contract to a certain extent) could really screw over teams with high quality RFAs and FAs to resign. Especially the Leafs.
